Alcatel is known for its affordable and budget mobile phones. They have decided to join the smartphone brigade by releasing their own smart phone, the Alcatel OT 980. It is the company’s first Android smartphone.
It has an onscreen keyboard that you can use in both wide and tall modes but it is not very ideal. The screen is just 2.8 inches and has a 320 x 240 pixel resolution; in short the screen keyboard is squeezed inside for space. The general specification of Alcatel OT 980 includes a 194 MB internal memory and a microSD support of up to 32 GB, 2 mega pixel built in camera, and a physical QWERTY keyboard, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, WLAN, Bluetooth and microUSB for connectivity.
On the plus side, they used Android v2.1 and HSDPA that can support up to 7.2 Mbps download. You can send or receive SMS, MMS and IM messaging and it also has HTML browsers. It also has 3.5 mm headset connector which means you can replace their headphone with your own personal earpiece.
Other feature includes GPS, Java, Digital compass, MP3, WMA, AAC+ player, MP4 player Google applications such as Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google calendar, Google talk integration, Organizer and Voice memo. It runs in an 115mAh standard Lithium battery that can support up to 245 hours of standby time, 10 hours of talk time and 35 hours of music play.
